America Reads Challenge: Ready *Set* Read for Caregivers: Early Childhood Language Activities for Children from Birth through Age Five

This guide provides ideas and age-appropriate activities caregivers can use to help young children learn about language. The activities are simple, designed to be incorporated into everyday life. They are presented in four sections, according to age/developmental group: young babies (birth to eight months); crawlers and walkers (eight to eighteen months); toddlers (18 to 36 months); and preschoolers (three to five years). Each of the four sections includes: (1) What do they do?; (2) How do they learn?; and (3) Appropriate ideas and activities. The guide includes a list of useful play supplies, a brief book and publication resource list, and addresses for federal sources of assistance.
